Most writers have shots of them looking very serious and drinking whiskey, wearing those weird jackets with the leather on the elbows. And trust me, I thought about doing that. But then again, you’re probably not reading me for whiskey drinking, elbow padded kinda opinions.
Hey, my name’s Verity. I’m a writer, TV presenter, MC and, in a nocturnal life, own & MC at a burlesque club.
I have a weekly Thursday column in Stuff, NZ’s biggest media outlet, where I talk about all kinds of madness. (My re-occuring obsessions would be politics, sex, society & the new zealand national identity, but really, I’m just trying to point out things we do in our everyday life and say - hey, have you seen this? Isn’t it interesting?!)
Someone once said that I talk about dark, difficult things in a light, funny way. And I can’t think of a better way of putting it. That’s kinda what I do across all my work.
Whether it’s getting on stage and ripping seven bells out of middle class society’s attitude to sex at a burlesque show….Or writing a political column on why our PM is the political equivalent of an emergency can of tuna….or just MCing your event in a way that doesn’t bore you to tears…I’m here to make you laugh while you think.
Sign up to my newsletter below to get my column in your inbox. Follow me on IG for all things show related. And drop me a line below if you’re in need of a fresh, funny MC to add some lively hilarity to your event.
Here’s a variety biscuit box selection of my columns
- Luxon is the 1am tuna can PM - there because there’s no one else
- Have you tried dating short men?
- Hey Pakeha, are you going to let David Seymour talk for you?
- Men in shorts & the knees of the Kiwi soul
-We’re an emotionally constipated country
